host of campuB critics as the "dark
horse" of this year's tourney, had to
work hard to dispose of Shelton, Its

ter teamwork and goal throwing abil
ity upon the part of the Cretans was
responsible for their victory, al
though Center Kacer did most of
their scoring. The first half ended

from their path. The suburbanites
have been playing strong basketball
throughout the season, but the dope
pointed to a clear-cut victory for
Omaha in yesterday's game. Uni
versity Place, which has had a habit
in years past of making brilliant rec
ords during the playing season and
then flunking out in the tournament,
put up a wonderful scrappy fight for
existence this year.
It was a matter of a foul goal which
Patty placed in the basket when sec
onds were being counted, which de
cided that Omaha, runners-up for the
championship last year, should sur
vive the second round and square
away for her next stiff game with
Columbus. Up to the last three min
utes, University Place led by three
points, but they were unable to hold
their lead. Maxwell, aPtty and Payn
ter amassed Omaha's total, while
Amos, with two field goals, led Uni
versity Place in the scoring.
