It is not necessary for us to call attention to the fact that there were several columns of "boiler plate" in the paper yesterday but it is necessary to state that thej reporters are now able to do pretty much as tney piease m regaru ,u getting in their stories because the editorial staff has no leverage on them. The Nebraskan will never be one of the best college papers until the reporters receive credit. Mr. Miner H. Whaley, '11, who is managing a drug store at Archer, was in Lincoln during the Thanksgiving recess. Mr. L. B. Davis of the State Soil Survey was this summer mapping and describing Washington county. He has completed his report and Is now on his way south, where he will work this winter. Dean Chas. Fordyce of the Depart ment of Education addressed a mass meeting at Grand Island Sunday on "Problems of the Young Man." George Marshall, Fre mont's well known citizen, now in his eighty-first year, entertained at a party recently at which all of his guest3 were more than eighty years of age. Mr. Marshall himself is unusually ac tive, employing his faculties in further ing his Inventions and in studying po litical topics of the day. Mr. Mar shall issued invitations to forty-Gix persons in Dodge and Saunders coun ties. Ten were unable to come. The oldest gnest was Randolph Seeley, of Scribner, who Is ninety-three years old. Pistol Djel on York Street York. As the result of a pistol bat tle on the street here between Watch man Springer and a tramp named Campbell, the tramp is in a hospital with ft bullet wound in his abdomen and another in the head and will prob ably die. The policeman was unin jured. When Springer went to the train he found two tramps, whom he placed under arrest and started for the Jail. Campbell suddenly jerked a pistol and commanded Springer to throw up bis hands. Springer pulled his own pistcl and bcth men started shooting. Campbell's bullets went wild, but Springer hit with both shots. The second tramp says the two intended bumming their way out of town on the n'ght train. Hard Lines for the Thirsty. Omaha The tourist who Iike3 some thing to drink on the fide while be is traveling will be in "hard luck" through Nebraska after January 1. The going into effect of the prohibi tion laws of Iowa end Colorado will do away with the sale of liquor on rallrcad lines going into and out of thepe states and most of the Ne braska lines likewise run into the two dry commonwealths.
