The pres ent election method under which the various candidates are put up for the approval of their classmates not on grounds of any publicly declared prin ciples, but on grounds of being the "best fellow" is such a system. This is not an attack on class spirit. Class spirit Is to be encour aged in that 'it is a producer of pep which. ' at' the proper time, can d converted into enthusiasm forthe school as a whole. But would it not be wiser to arouse Scene from "GRAUSTARK" at the ORPHEUM TODAY. MART C. GRAHAM, Chairman. From the standpoint of the students the only objection to the mixers is the inadequate space accommodations. Twice the. present space could be used to advantage, and it is probable that the need will in time come to the attention of the Board of Regents. LWhy not let the various parties come before the students with concrete platforms, embodying principles which they think will advance the interests of K. U.? Why not let them ask for support on other grounds than the personality of their candidate? Ex. Freshmen Barred from Saloons at Madison "No FreBhman is permitted to enter a saloon in the city of Madison," ac cording to the rule passed by the Stu dent conference. If a Freshman is over twenty-one years a saloonkeeper cannot refuse him admittance to the saloon if he de mands It, but according to the confer ence ruling, no Freshman, whether of age or not, shall be permitted to enter a saloon. According to the saloonkeepers they cannot help the conference enforcing the ruling le gaily. Last yes,r no complaints were en tered against Freshmen for entering Rftioons but in 1913 when the ruling was passed, several cases were up be-, fore the Student Court. The confer-, ence and Sophomore class are watch ing closely to see that the rule is not violated this year. The penalty for those found guilty t of entering is suspension from univer-: sity work for a period of not less than two days nor more than two weeks for each offense.
