A lot of you don't act but you think

Those old prophets weren't trim
mers like a bunch of preachers I know
today. If he was like one of those
today he would have said, "Just keep
it under cover; we'll kep it as quiet
as we can.
Keep Jesus Christ where He be
longs, and don't try to back Him on a
side track and try to lock the switch.
Some church members are just like
washed sows. I'm quoting Scripture.
Oh, you're shocked? But just the
same you're like the sow and the dog.
If there is anlhing on this earth I
despise it is the man or woman who
will remind anyone of the deeds of
their former life if they are not lead
ing that kind of a life now. Anybody
who does is so low down he'd have to
get a balloon to get to hell.
Almost every business in Lincoln
feels the effect of the return of the
students. "I don't need to be told
when the university opens," says a
newsdealer. "My books will show
every year just when the students go
home and when the come back. The
city seems lively enough all snmmer,
but trade doesn't really get to mov
ing right until the students come in to
shift the gears into high speed.
RED CROSS APPEALS FOR AID.
Must Discontinue Relief Work Unless
Help Comes Quickly.
Washington An appeal from Amer
ican citizens in Mexico City urging
the American Red Cross not to dis
continue its relief work there has
been made public here by Miss Mabel
T. Board man, chairman of the Red
Cross national relief board. Since the
petition was drafted a contribution of
$25,000 from the Rockefeller founda
tion has replenished an exhausted fund
of the Red Cross for Mexican relief,
and Charles J. O'Connor, in charge of
the society's headquarters at Mexico
City, has been notified that all reason
able demands can be met for the next
thirty days. "We learn our relief
work will stop unless further funds
are raised in the United States' said
the appeal. "For humanity's sake, we
beg you to appeal again to the Ameri
can people.
Freak Plants in Well
Weeping Water. Freak plant
growths which are proving so numer
ous this season showed up in a pe
culiar form In a well on the farm of
Tom Grummel, a Nemaha county
fanner. While examining for trouble
in the pump, workmen found the
wooden tubing of the well almost
closed with a heavy matting of roots
and fungus. The condition existed
along the tubing for almost the entire
depth of the well, and it was neces
sary to put in entirely new tubing.
