GOSSIP OF. THE THEATRES
With the exception of opening a new
park this summer, the amusements
were about he same as they have al
ways been, with plenty of moving pic
tures, dancing, stock plays and a bit
of light vaudeville.
The Barrow-Howard IMayers, at the
Oliver, have made a bigger home in
the hearts of Lincolnites than ever
before. Their plays have been clean
and. interesting, showing the intention
to please their patrons. At the Lyric
the big hit of the summer was the
fifteen part photoplay, "The Goddess."

art, while the vaudeville, although
mediocre at times, has catered large
ly to summer crowds and has won
approval in some sections of the house
on all occasions.
The moving picture theatres are do
ing themselves proud In the introduc
ing famous stars and vital plays.
Even Charlie Chaplin hus pushed his
face on to our screens and will be
shown here every week for the re
mainder of the summer. Capital
Beach was on the wane the first part
of the season, but Electric park came
to its aid with a mammoth dancing
pavilion, and it became Quite the
vogue from then on to dance the fore
part of the evening at cne place and
then spend the remaining dances on

Nazimova arrives in Lincoln today
to begin her engagement at the Or
pheum in "War Brides," a vital story
of conditions in her native country.
Madame Nazimova will be remem
bered from her appearance here two
years a no in Ibsen's "The Doll House."
Only one other person has ever re
ceived a larger salary from the Or
pheum management, and that is Mme.
Bernhardt, who is now preparing to
make her ninth farewell tour of this
country.
