THE FORUM
From Mr. H. I. Kyle's Forum article
in the Nebraskan Monday we take
it that he considers our views on
patriotism all wrong. Owing to the
fact that we seemed to have made
ourself clear in our article on April
21 that is, clear to most people
we will not attempt to answer his
question. "If these acts of 'saluting'
or 'standing' are indications of patriot
ism and things for good, why should
there be any reason for abandoning
them after the army and navy have
been done away with?"
However, we might mention the fact
that sometimes the truth hurts like
everything.

ONLY FOURTEEN MORE
NIGHT8 OF DRILL
Captalnt Look Forward to Competitive
Drill With Hopes of Their Com
pany Winning Honors
Fourteen more nights of drill is the
story that Interests the cadets. Thir
teen more nights of drill before "com
pet" is the story that Interests the cap
tains. They realize the facts and are
doing their best now, working hard to
straighten out the most obvious de
fects and to get their men in the 6pirit
of the work. They are calling their
officers together for special orders im
pressing upon the corporals especially,
as the commandant had at the first of
the spring drill, the value of the effi
ciency of the small unit to the effi
ciency of the whole. The captains
have entertained their companies in
an effort to instill in each man the
spirit of the work and to solicit his
best efforts.
The captains will have three nights
a week in which to drill their men the
fourth night being given over to bat
talion drill and parade. Government
inspection is over now, as well as all
the extra drill and interruptions in the
regular routine so the captains can
now get down to solid routine work
and get their companies into fighting
shape.

The girls at Colorado University ob
jected strenuously because the En
gineers didn't dress or shave, accord
ing to their wishes, that is, neatly and
without courdaroia and beards. Me
thinks that we should send a commit
tee of Nebraska Engineers to Colo
rado, Warner, Craig, Allen or Norris
for instance. Even at this school they
are not dreamed of as being engineers.
They would surely be popular with the
co-eds there.
