MEDIC CONVOCATION
(Continued .from page 1)
Dean Urldges believes clinical medi
cine should be taught in a broad
gauged way. paying due uttention to
both scientific and practical aspects.
He also stated that the Pro-medics
are laying here the scientific founda
tion for their college work; that their
success there will depend on the
foundation laid here.
TRACK SQUAD MEETS
COYOTE TEAM TODAY
First Dual Meet of Year With Wes
leyan at University Place this
Afternoon
The Husker track squad donned
suits and spikes for a few minutes
last night and went through a light
workout in anticipation of the dual
meet with Wesleyan at University
Place this afternoon.
A goodly bunch of Husker rooters
have planned to journey to the suburb
with Coach Reed and his squad of
thirty athletes, since the meet will
afford the first chance to see Ne
braska in action against outside com
petition. The team, as shown last
night, are all in good condition. The
coach has been particularly careful in
his selection of the men for today's
festivities, selecting only those in fit
condition for strenuous work at this
early time.
The Coyotes, although sending no
advance reports to town, are expect
ing big things of "the boys" today.
In A. Warner and Johnson in the
hundred and the two-twenty they
have two exceptionally speedy speed
sters, and Wesleyanites will be some
what surprised if these two cham
pions of the sunflower do not finish
within the money. A Warner is also
somewhat of a broad jumper, and
with Hay ward completes the Coyote
entries in this event. In the high
jump the Methodists have entered
Hayward and V Warner, both of
whom have cleared the bar at good
altitudes. Mr. Jack Johnson will toss
the cannon ball for Wesleyan, bein
their sole representative in the shot
put. They have entered but one man
Durham in the discus, also, but re
ports are to the effect that both of
these athletes have . enough surplus
quality to make up for two or three
co-partners.
The list of Husker entries in the
different events follows:
One hundred yards dash, Scott
Deering; 220, Scott, Zumwinkle; 440,
Zum winkle, Bates; half mile, Clark
Kubik. Claar; mile, Spohn, Anderson,
Gribble. Garrison; two mile, Weber
meier. McMasters, Raecke; lroad
jump, Rees, Ankeny; high jump.
Rees. Hummel; pole vault, Reavis;
shot put, Chamberlain, Rutherford,
Shields: discus, Otoupalik. Lowman;
low hurdles, Goetze, Bolton, Irsael,
Gardiner; high jump, Goetze, Bolton

high school. The work equips the
boys with the knowledge of some
special line of industrial activity that
he may be able to enter some voca
tion with the ability to make good
The course is to overcome the com
mou criticism that public school boys
are poorly equipped for practical
work and unreliable.
Special rooms will be arranged for
the care of backward children. The
work here is to diagnose the difficulty
and to give the student what he can
do. Here in particular Professor Cor
nell is fitted for the work in being
able to study the student and diag
nose the case on a psychological
basis.
The new high school building is
eouiDped with one of the best manual
training departments in the country.
Tho department includes a printing
r.ress and plana have been laid for a
complete mechanical equipment. The
old high school will be remodeled
into an industrial center.
Professor Cornell is exceptionally
well adapted for this work, not only
havins taken a doctor's degree in
psychology, but. previous to this made
an" extensive study of electrical en
gineering,' being elected as an under
graduate to the honorary fraternity or
Sigma Tau.
