If there is to be a soloist his or her part of the program must not over balance the rest. If a number Is especially tragic, a gayer one must fol low. It is in matters of this kind that Walter Damrosch is a past master. Mr. Damrosch has arranged many special programs, one recalled was de voted to "the family," whose basis was a performance of Richard StrauM "Domestic Symphony," in which papa, mamma, and the baby are portrayed in tones; another devoted to the great composers in their lighter moods in cluded Haydn's "Kindersymphony." and the men in the orchestra played cn toy whistles, drums and other miniature instruments. -m Music lovers will be delighted to know that Conductor Damrosch and the entire New York Symphony Or- chestra will appear at the Auditorium on the afternoon and evening of May 6th.
