Transplanted It within a vase, Because it was so bright and gay. Many a passerby would Btop To look upon the highland fiow'r, And every one who beheld It, Exclaimed, "Tis from some shaded bower." To the velvet petals they touched their Hps. And breathed Its wild perfume, Then spoke of It in glowing words As they would leave my room, But soon the fiow'r began to fade, As though 'twere pining for decay. And e'er its petals had been curled Its very charms had passed away. For old time's sake I left it there That pasBersby might see The dainty works of God's great hand From death are never free But no one stopped his hurried pace To nine the flow'rs decay But hurriedly moved on along Each one a flow'r on his way. Like the flow'r Is life's deceit When youth is ever gay. But those who flatter turn to seek A lovelier flow'r along the way. Remember March 19th.
