Nebraska, as second-class mail matter, under the Act of Congress of March I. 1879. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17, 1915 ALL GONE The expected happened. Two hours after the seat 6ale for University Night began yesterday the supply had been exhausted and that, after the authorized statement in Monday's Ne braskan that the seat 6ale would be at 11:00 Tuesday, when in fact it be gan at 12:30 an hour when a large number of students had left the cam ps for the day. In fpite of the repeated suggestions of the Nebraskan concerning a matinee performance jthe committee has not considered the proposition. The Oliver can be secured for Saturday afternoon for $50. The lower floor seats six hundred people. This number at the regular price would net more than enough to pay expenses. Now why shouldn't this annual event be broad ened so that all students might have a chance to go. There are many peo ple in this school who can't afford to attend dances; who can't afford to go to expensive shows; who can't afford to pay fifty cents, or a dollar, or three dollars to attend some entertainment or social function. Now when there is a representative school affair that is within their financial reach they can't attend because they were unable to be at a certain place at a certain hour. There Is still time enough to arrange for a matinee Saturday. It is to be hoped that the committee will get be hind this proposition and give all a chance to attend the University Night performance. wee small hours of Saturday and be so exhausted on Sunday morn ing that church is the last thing In his thoughts." THE FORUM WHAT THINK YOU? - The following from the Lincoln Daily News for Monday evening, March 15th, is timely, in that it has to do with a subject that is at the present time per plexing not only the University officials, but also the student body as a whole: "In the course of his remarks last Sunday morning. Rev. CharlAs R. Tyner of SL Luke's church said that if the restrictions were taken off the social activities of the Uni versity there would be no need for a Robins' campaign or any other spiritual revival. At present the student can only indulge in social festivities on Friday and Satur day night, and naturally makes the most of it, with the result that when Sunday morning comes he is too tired to attend church and if he does he is not in that frame of mind in -which he can derive the most benefit from the service and naturally his spiritual life is weakened. "Why not, he asked, take the crutches away from the student, throw him upon his own reeponsi ' bllitj and hold him accountable at the examinations? Why not encourage the student to attend church? Make conditions so that ' he will not have to be out till the THE FORUM Editor Dally Nebraskan. The University of Nebraska bas pro tected its students from the hold-up prices of downtown restaurants and cafes by starting the Unl Cafeteria. Why not break up the laundry trust by putting a laundry plant into the plans for a greater university?' When all the town laundries unite "In re straint of trade" and hold up the poor college boy for twenty cents every time he has his best "Sunday-go-to-meeting" 6hlrt laundered, it Is about time for the University to step In and call a halt. If "Cleanliness is next to Godliness." it would be not in the least improper for the school authorities to make real cleanliness a financial possibility. A STUDENT. A Criticism Answered The Forum article in The Daily Ne braskan yesterday was an unjust criti cism of the great work accomplished by the Robins meetings last week. It seems almost incredible that a per son at all familiar with the purpose of the recent campaign could so unjust ly find fault and should so misrepre sent the facts. Every minister of the gospel from the time of Christ to the present day has been what the writer of the article scorned as a "professional soul-Baver." Any man who devotes his life to the spreading of Christianity must be con sidered that, because that is his life work, his profession. I differ from Mr. Hixenbaugh because I hope that the "professional soul-savers" will not "have to seek other employment" The world needs them today as much as ever before, and, may I say, Nebraska University has not yet reached that so-called advanced state of civilization when It can well do without them. As to the result accomplished by this campaign, Mr. Hixenbaugh is en tirely at sea. The campaign was not an "indifferent success." It was a great success. Last Sunday seven hun dred men listened to every word from the lips of Mr. Robins, that leader of men, who spoke ihe great truths con cerning God and man. That is how the campaign was an "indifferent success." Among those who were there, the con sensus of opinion was that it was a good influence, perhaps Mr. Hixen baugh was not there. In fact the trend of his article would lead one to be lieve that he had failed to attend any of the meetings and was speaking en tirely from a belief previously formed. And when Mr. Hixenbaugh applied the epithet "vulgar" to Mr. Sunday he again judged unjustly. Is it not strange that the legislature of the state of New Jersey last week invited Mr. Sun day to address its body so that they might hear bis "vulgarisms"? Is it not strange that five thousand civilized people tried to crowd into the building after its seating capacity was ex hausted In order to hear his "vulgar" remarks? In conclusion, as a student of this institution, I sincerely hope another campaign is held next year similar to this one and that the results will be as great ORYILLE CHATT. UNI.
