MARCH 12, 1915 RAYMOND ROBINS If anyone who went to the meeting In the Temple last night was In doubt as to the ability of the speaker to make good that doubt was dispelled In the first two minutes of his talk. His direct way of puting things cannot help but appeal to the college marfV There is nothing sanctimonious about Raymond Robins. There was none of that spineless sort of religion in. his talk last night. He preached the religion that leads a man to help the people who haven't a fair chance in life. Not helping them by praying for them and then calmly driving by on the other side in a big touring car, but helping them by fighting the forces thta seek to undermine and destroy the forces that make it impossible for them to lead a clean healthy life. " We are fortunate in having the op portunity of having this man with us. He has a message for college men and women. If you haven't heard him, do so. He is a man worth listening to. The Pierce team, concerning which rumors have been floating dowr. from the north, played thir first game yesterday afternoon against Platts mouth, and the class displayed by the Pierce quintet was a revelation. Eleven games were staged on the Armory and the Chapel floors last night. In Class A. Geneva defeated Merna, Kearney defeated Plalnview, Omaha defeated Dodge, South Omaha defeated Auburn, and Crete defeated Stanton. In Class B, Lexington, Mln den, Hebron. West Point. Elmwood and Friend were victorious over their opponents. THE FORUM The methods to be used and the end in view in the present "Robins' Cam paign." ns outlined in the Wednesday issue of the Nebraskan, speaks well for the movement. The plan is "not to dogmatize, but to induce men to in dividual and collective thinking" and to "develop a spirit of charity, sincer ity and courage to follow convictions. If this plan is adhered to the good resulting will be inestimable, but if we can judge from past experiences there is danger that the movement may degenerate into a mere "roundup" of souls. Especially is this so when in the same issue we see an account of Billy Sunday's feat in getting six hun dred men to definitely begin the Chris tian life." The methods of Billy Sun day and the plan outlined above have not even the most remote resemblance, and no one should attempt to connect them. It is hoped that this item was inserted to show what we should avoid rather than an example for us to fol low. When we encourage men to THINK we encourage them to doubt, and con sequently court differences of opinion. If we have faith in the Integrity of the human soul we should desire such re sult. Wbat we want to do is not to induce men to accept a religion, but to develop their religious nature. We should not assume that all good ideals, sincerity and all courage are monopo lized by and are inseparable from the Christian religion. Let. us then encourage this cam paign in so far as it follows its avowed purpose, but at the same time guard against all effort to sweep men into a uniformity of belief upon a tide of emotionalism.
