is in the scrap for certain; the others
are rumored. Swenson is a barb who
was on the Freshman debating team
last year that won the interclass cham
pionship, and this year is a member of
the Sophomore team.
For Senior president' Mr. O. W. Sjo
gren is the only man who has so far
announced himself. Mr. Zumwinkel.
who was quoted as intending to enter
the race has since denied the state
ment. Sjogren is a member of the In
nocents, Alpha Zeta, the honorary agri
cultural society, Sigma Tau, honorary
engineering society and a Senior in the
Engineering College.
ENGINEERS MAKE
SEMESTER APPOINTMENTS
The Board of Control of the En
gineering Society met yesterday and
made the following appointments:
Dance committee M. M. Garrett,
chairman; U. S. Harkson, M. C; E. M.
Kadlecek.
T. L. Frank was elected treasurer to
succeed O. E. Edison, whose term had
expired.
O. E. Edison was appointed as
chairman of the banquet committee to
succeed J. M. Roe, who is out of school
this semester.
RECEPTION FOR MID
. YEAR GRADUATES
Next Monday night, following the an
nual midwinter commencement exer
cises a reception will be given in
Faculty Hall in honor of the graduates.
The Black Masques have charge of the
affair and will serve refreshments dur
ing the evening.

Black Masques to Have Charge of En
tertainment to be Given After
Commencement Exercises
The University will formally cele
brate its birthday Monday. The
usual events held on this day will be
given again this year. That is the
athletic meet In the afternoon in Me
morial Hall and the annual mid-winter
commencement at the Temple
Theatre in the evening. But this year
there will be an all University mixer
besides.
The athletic events will be:
1. 25-yard dash.
2. Pole vault.
3. 12-pound shot put.
4. Fence vault.
5. Running high jump.
6. Running, high kick.
7. Rope climb.
8. Interclass relay. Senior, Junior,
Sophomore and Freshmen.
Last year this contest was hotly

record for the 25-yard dash is held by
E. V. Brannon, who covered that dis
tance in three seconds. Eleven feet
2 inches is the record for the pole
vault, won by A. C. Llndstrum in
1913. In that same year Herbert
Reese made the shot-put record,
throwing th shot 44 feet 7 inches.
A. B. Chain, '09, still holds the fence
vault record, having made 6 feet 7
inches. Another old record is that of
the running high jump 5 feet 9
inches which was made in 1907 by
Paul .Athes, and tied in that same
year by J. C. Knode. Another 1913
record is the running high kick, which
will probably not be beaten for a long
time. The record is 9 feet 9 Inches,
made by C. B. ("Seven") Myers. The

The mixer will be held in the after,
noon this time.. Besides the track
meet, there will be a good program
all the features of which will be new
and novel. There will be dancing and
other entertainments for those who do
not dance.
Doctor Bessey Unimproved
At a late hour last evening Doctor
Bessey's condition was very critical
He remained much the same through'
out yesterday, but became reBtless
last evening and seemed somewhat
weaker.
