one can get my vote on that basis."

SOCIAL SERVICE AND THE
CHURCHES
Wouldn't it be great if the churches
could be social service centers where
the vital questions of the hour such
as unemployment, health, poverty, pro-1
tection of children could be freely
discussed? May it not be that poor
heredity, ill-chosen companions, lack
of nourishing food and disease play
as much havoc with people's lives as
the mueh-preached-about "original

Yesterday while looking through
some old clippings we find the follow
ing from Dr. C. F. Aked:
"The world is waiting for a new
incarnation, a religion that shall be as
good for the polling place as for the
prayer meeting; as good for swapping
horses as for saying prayers; as good
for the primaries as for the presby-1
tery. The gospel today is a gospel of i
social service. We may be thankf ul
for the promises of mansions on high,
but what we need is more decent
homes on earth and more decent peo
ple in them. Religion is not a thing J
