FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1914 I held it truth, with him who sings To one clear harp in diverse tones, That men may rise on stepping stones Of their dead selves to higher things. Tennyson. Will see yon party tonight. at the all-University The Adviser to Women has asked that in dancing the new dances the waltz position be taken. Courtesy and good form demand that her wishes be respected. Dare to do your own thinking. One reason why some people carry so little weight in the world is because they constantly trim their opinions a little here and there so as to agree with all people. If all men were of that caliber, how could society ever ad vance. Think of the intellectual stagnation! Whether we agree with hini or not, we all admire the man with convictions of his own, and who dares to assert them when the occa sion arises. Est. 1071 1143 O UNIVERSITY MIXER Editor Daily Nebraskan: Tonight will be held the second great "mixer, and it is the duty of every loyal student of Nebraska to be there. My ideas are best expressed In the following: Some day, students, we'll be drifting Out upon life's stormy main. , But if life is not too stormy, We'll be thinking back again! So, lest any recollection Should in future cloud the brow, Let us, if we can, forestall them By a little thinking now. Seems to me that 'mong the fellows Whom we jostle on the stairs, There are some whom we would gladly Call our friends in coming years; Seems to me there may be with us, Conscious of their latent powers, Men and women whom we'd proudly Name as college friends of ours. That may be but just at present Here is something to regret; Some are strangers to their class mates Just because they've never "met." True, they see each other daily, In the classroom, on the street, Know each other's names and faces, But, nlas! they never "meet"! Seems to me a trifle foolish That these folks whom we should know Must be formally presented As "Miss or Mr. So-and-So.," And I know 'twould seem more fool ish. If by the irony of fate, One should, after years together, Really "meet" a college-mate. Think it over, fellow-students, College days are not a dream; Seas and mountains soon will sever College friends that might have been. Let the prou-1 Nebraska spirit Broader, fuller, deeper grow; Know Nebraska's sons and daughters; Get acquainted here and now! JOHN E. LANZ, '16. UNI. NOTICES United Ag 8ociety Party. PRE-MEDICS ENJOY VISIT TO HOSPITAL FOR INSANE JCojitimiedr ity. He gave some interesting sta tistics concerning the work and gave some examples of the work done in the pas', years. Doctor Emerson then gave a talk on "The Relation of In sanity to the Medical School." This was "a very fine talk, in which the doctor showed how this phase of medicine was being neglected, and he also prophesied that this would be taken up more carefully in the near future. Doctor Emerson was a stu dent at Nebraska when there were not so many people taking the med ical course, and he expressed himself as pleased to see so many taking up this profession. Doctor Griffith, of the Hospital, was next, and he lec tured on the new frm of treatment of mental diseases called "Hydro Therapy." He told of several recent cases, mentioning especially the phys ical benefits to be derived from this treatment. He also told of the vari ous ways of treating different forms of one kind of Insanity. Dean Wol cott next told of the new buildings the future scientists of Nebraska were to have, as he thought they would be.
