ELLIS WINS THREE SETS FROM GARDINER Win Decisively Yesterdays-Will Play Chatt In the Finals This Afternoon For the Championship. Harry Ellis won a decided victory over "Chuck" Gardiner yesterday afternoon on the University courts. Gardlnier succeeded in defeating Riley Young fellows College men particularly arc care ful clothes buyers. They want the newest styles, the best tailoring. If you care about these things you will find your requirements best served at Wednesday and the match yesterday put the winner into the finals. Ellis was at his best and won in straight sets, the scores being 6-4, 6-1, and 6-4. Gardiner took the first three games but after that everything turned in favor of Ellis. It was expected by the tennis followers that the match would at least go five sets and the re sult was quite a surprise even to the supporters of the winner. This after noon Ellis will play Chatt in ihe finals for the championship of the Univer sity. The match will be played on the University courts and no doubt will be closely contested. This lot will pe placed on sale SATURDAY morning at $1.39 Come in and see some 1132 lit, A modern "town and gown" row was precipitated last week at the Univer sity of Wisconsin, when students of the university tried to throw a town boy into Lake Mendota, mistaking him for a fellow student. In the resulting street fight 300 students battled with several hundred citizens, despite the cooling powers of thie streams from several hydrants, which the city fire department directed into the crowd of combatants. C. R. Van Hise, president of the university, stood bond for the four students arrested and addressed the 1,500 students who surrounded the uni versity, thirsting for battle and per suaded the mob to disperse.
