day that there were between 150 and
200 enrolled in the School of Com
merce. This large enrollment Is an
excellent response to the efforts of
the professors who have worked hard
In building and arranging this orancn
of the University. The courses given
are ones which appeal to every one
upon the campus because of their
thoroughness and direct bearing upon
after life. Many students are realiz
ing that the professions are over
crowded and that there is plenty of
room for all in the great business
world. They are consequently talcing
advantage of the opportunity which
they have of getting the work they
desire.
While particular attention Is paid to
these branches of work which a busi
ness man meets every day In practice,
nevertheless the culture side is not
neglected.
Much attention Is paid to rhetoric,
economics, philosophy, etc., so that a
broad education is the result.
The School of Commerce gives a
three years' course in accounting.
There are over 100 enrolled in the
first year class in elementary account
ing. The second year is spent on ad
vanced accounting and the third year
is devoted to auditing. This course
thoroughly prepares a man to take the
examinations of certified public ac
countant.
In the classes' of commercial and in
dustrial geography there are also over
100 enrolled, the class in business law
is again under Prof. Robbins of the
Law College, who made such a success
of the work last year. This course
has been changed this year from a
two-hour class to a three as it was
found last year that the work cpuld
not be satisfactorily carried on in two
hours.
Nebraska may well boast of this
branch of our University because its
the only school of its kind in the
Valley. Chicago has a School of Com
merce and Minnesota gives 'the same
class of work as Nebraska but site
has no particular school.
There are several students enrolled
from other states who have come here
especially for this work.
