REGISTRATION CARDS WENT FAST YESTERDAY. Reorganized System Starts in With a Hum Registrar Greer Enthusi astic and Busy. The enthusiastic remarks of the registrar in regard to the registration. this fall were more than verified hy 'the call for registration cards yester day. Practically all of the cards set out for the students who wished to register today were given out by the people in charge of that particular end of the reorganized system, on Tuesday. Today it is expected that practically all of the cards for Thursday registra tion and also a number for the follow ing two days will be given out. The rumor is afloat that even with the new way of handling things some of the older members of the student body insist upon securing cards for some of their close friends. This is practically impossible for every stu dent must procure a card showing his record of work before he can in any manner get his card of hours to appear before the assignment committee or to pay his few precious dollars for the inevitable fees. Besides giving out the class work cards which are to be presented to 'the advisors the registration cards and the credit cards which are kept in the registrars office at all times will also be given out. A signed notice of the withdrawal of these credit cards must be left by the student. A feature of the registration for this year seems to be. the fact that after having completed the compulsory rhetoric and drill and ,the regular . ernun retirements the student may forget he old system of majors and minors and in turn concentrate on some one subject to the extent of six teen hours. He may of course major and minor if he so sees fit Palladian Society. The Palladian Literary Society will hold a reception Friday, September 25th. at 8 p. m for, all students in Pal ladian Hall on the third floor of the Temple. A short program has been prepared and arrangements have been made to give every one a good time. All students are requested to come; TOLSTOI AND THE PRESENT WAR. A short time before Tolstoi died he published what lie said was a vision of the coming war. Much of it is im probable and impossible. Here is the prophecy: "This is a revelation of events of a universal character which must short ly come to pass. Their spiritual out lines are now before my eyes. I see, floating upon the surface of the sea of human fate, the huge silhouette of a nude woman. She is with her heauty, her poise, her smile, her jewels a super Venus. 'Wations rush madly after her, each of-Ahem eager 'to attract her especially. But she, like an eternal courtesan, flirts with all. In her hair ornament of diamonds and rubies is engraved her name: 'Commercialism.' As al luring and bewitching as she seems, much destruction and agony follows in her wake. Her breath, reeking of sordid transactions, her voice of me tallic character like gold, and her look of greed are so much poison to the nations who fall victims to her charms. "And behold, she has three gigantic arms with three torches of universal corruption in her hand. "The first torch represents the flame of war, that the beautiful courtesan Continued en page 7 College Book Store I The New Store for Students, "Facing the Campus" A Large Stock of Second Hand Books Trade your old books for the ones you will need this semester.
