THE DAILY NEBRASKAN J . x f Track Work by the Co-eds Brwnixttcs L ji ' i r Great interest i shown in track events, every girl who is athletically inclined, pines for u "N," nt least a medal. The standards set hy the committee for win ning a "N," are high. To attain this honor a girl must have an "E," in physi cal education, a place on the class team and first, second and third places in some track event. This standard places the premium on physical ability and does away with over-training. Last spring the following girls were given the right to wear the "N": Edith Brown, Mildred Butler, Marie Clark, Edna Froyd Amy Garner, Camille Leyda, Lucille Leyda, Edith Miller, Lot tie Ravage, Ruth Sheldon, and Ethel Johnson. Judging from the interest shown and the excellent work done in practice this spring, a much larger number will prob ably -be praiseiiieiL Aspiring "Sprinters" and hurdlers flock to the Gymnasium at every avail able hour of the day. Under Miss Git tings' coaching they learn to clear hurdles and "Shoot off" the mark in ex cellent form. Those whoso ability lies in strength rather than in speed, "Put the shot," and throw the basket-ball. The records made by the girls in prev ious years compare very favorably with the track work of other colleges. The Vassar record of official field meats aro tiot superior on the average to our own. The following will show Hie work done in Vassar, Berkeley, and Nebraska. Vassar. Berkeley. Nebraska. High Jump4.rt.2-in. 4-ft.2-in. 4-ft. 3-in. Shot Put..:n-rt. 8-in. 34-ft. 1-in. 33-ft. The Dramatic club was organized in 1902. During the first few years of its existence the leading roles in the plays presented, were taken by members of the faculty. One of the first plays to be given was the "Professor's Love Story," with Searle Davis and Basilic Tully in the leading parts. This play met with phenomenal success from the start and practically established the reputation of the club and set the standard for future productions. Space will not permit the mentioning of many of the other excellent plays which have been given later. The Dramatic club has been one organization which has always been a paying proposition. It has assisted the athletic department, con tributed to Y. M. C. A. work, and do nated over $1,000 to the neighborhood house. Four of the students who hove speciol- ized in this department have gone into professional work. Harry Neligh, Homer Hunts, Bashie Tully and Julia Nagl James. Julia Nagl James played the second leading role in the original "Bird of Paradise" company, in New York City. At the present time the membership of the club is limited to about twenty live. The Kosmet club is a dramatic club, whose object is to promote the production of original plays by the students. The music and the plays are all written by students or members of the faculty. The German Dramatic club presents German plays several times a year, all the conversation is carried on in German. The Spharo Styx gave its first enter tainment this year. Its productions takes the form of vaudeville stunts which are supposed to be humorous. AJ1 in Sight. Jack Spratt could eat no fat, "Ilis-Wife eoulil eat no lean: a great deal of responsibility."
