Yesterday morning during the con
vocation period the student council
convention held its first meeting. Al
though there was more than a quorum
present, tho full number composing
tho convention did not put in an ap
pearance. Frank Perkins wob elected
permanent chairman and Bess Rogers
was mado permanent secretary. The
convontion decided to appoint a com
mittco composed of two members from
each class for the purpose of drafting
a constitution and presenting it to the
convontion at its next regular meet
ing. It was alBO decided to appoint a
committee of three to Investigate con
ditions at Nebraska University and
sec what tho need was for a student
counci), Tho chairman stated that
he would appoint theso committees
after investigating tho fitness of tho
mombers and their knowledge upon
tho subject. Tho meeting adjourned
until a week from Thursday morning.

Event Will Be Held on University
Field Large Banner to Go
to the Winner.
Tho annual high school fete day will
be held Saturday May 1G on the Uni
versity track. On that day most of
tho high schools belonging to tho Ne
braska High School Athletic Associa
tion will compete in tho track and
field meet for the championship of the
state. Nearly ovory large high school
will bo represented by from three to
ton mon. In all, a hundred athletes
may bo expected to take part In tho
meet
Tho feto day was first started about
ton years ago by tho University as a
means of getting to Lincoln many of
tho high school students of tho state.
Tho athletes and their friends who
come down each year are entertained
by tho students, who take it upon
themselves to show them the advan
tages of the University. This event
has grown in importance rapidly and
each year brings to Lincoln Increased
numbers. It ranks in importance with
the annual high school basketball
tournament.
Just what the outcome of this year's
meet will bo is hard to predict. Very
little is known about the relative

pete this year. LaBt year the Kearney
Military Academy, a dark horse, won
with comparative ease. Whether sho

certain of a victory.
Prizes, including individual medals
for tho place winners and a loving cup
for the winning team, will be awarded.
Gold sterling silver and bronze
medalB will be awarded to tho win
ners of first, second and third places
and silk badges to the winners of
fourth places. A largo banner will bo
awarded tho winning relay team, and
a handsome loving cup will bo. pre
sented" to the team getting the great
est number of points.

of Denver mot the University of
Wyoming in their annual debato. The
question was tho adoption of a logal
minimum wage for all unskilled labor.
The whole debate was a hotly contest
ed affair. Tho Denver team upheld
tho afOrmatlvo, while tho Wyoming
team defended the negative. Tho de
cision, was against the minimum wage
and consequently against Denver.
Wyoming, showed great skill both In
handling material and evidence as well

however, is to bo congratulated on tho
way they handled their debato.
