MEXICAN SITUATION
DISCUSSED BY FLING
The Stores of Interest to All Uni Men and Women
Does Not Think Time Ripe for Ac
tlon Interests of Many Coun
tries Are Involved.
Professor Fling of the Europenn
History department explained the
Mexican situation at convocation yes
terday morning. The main theme of
the talk was that the various coun
tries should co-operate In handling
such an affair as that in Mexico. The
many money Interests In Mexico have
been calling for aid and protection.
Because of the Monroe Doctrine the
United States will not allow other
countries to Interfere, although they
have peoplo there trying to make
some of the big money. These pepple
must be protected and if the United
States will not allow England, Ger
many and France to protect their
people they will have to protect them.
This country will have to stand the
expense in lives as well as money in
order to protect the people of other
countries who have interests in
Mexico.
Of the sixteen million people in
Mexico only two million have control
over affairs political as well as finan
e 5l7rPhe-remainmg fourteen million
people are peons attached to the soil
and under the absolute control of the
powerful -minority.
The Mexican problem Is the Philip
pine problo mon an enlarged scale.
Should the United States try to as
sume the regulation of the situation
it will have to educate fourteen mil
lion Indians, and the problem will be
mightier than any ever handled by
this country.
The International co-operation
method was endorsed by the professor"
and although it is being introduced
only on a mild scale through the A.
B. C. Conference, a start has never
theless been made.
A petition for a vote on the honor
system is being submitted to the stu
dents at Minnesota. The system as
submitted calls for a separate college
