WON BY THE THETAS Attracts Much Attention Run in Fast Time Alpha O's a Close Second. . No admission was charged at the tryouts Saturday, and as a result they were attended by only a fair-sized crowd. It's a funny thing that people as a rule stay away from any perform ance unleBr they can be fleeced at fho gate. But those who did attend cer tainly witnessed a most Interesting meet. The thriller of the afternoon was the relay race. Up until the last few seconds it looked as If the men running for the Alpha Os would bring down the roses, but they went smash all of a sudden. The raco was a test between Irwin, Bates, Scott and Zunv wlnklo, representing the Alpha Osr and Chamberlain, Maxwell, Howard and Reed, proxies of the Kappa Alpha Thetns. The Thetas drow the outside path and this gave Irwin u-slx or eight foot lead at the end of the first 220. Bates added that much more and How ard was not able to cut down the big lead. At the time of the last touch off, Zumwlnklo had a good ten or twelve loot lead liver Heed. AB" the two rounded the curve Zumwlnklo seemed to be fairly flying. Reed was gaining a little, but the pace was ter rific. As the two men headed down the homo stretch and as they neared the tape Reed seemed to, be fairly electrified and not only passed his speedy pupil, but passed him with sev eral feet to spare. Timers say that Roed's time was under 22 seconds. But what ever put that much power 1n him as-- her neared thTT"taTTet he" crowd could not fathom. STELLAR BACKFIELD FOR FOOTBALL TEAM Coach Stlehm Rounding His Huskers Into Form Two Old Men Are Out. tbaH-men- through a lively practice last night. His backfleld looked like a winner.
