More than forty men tried out for
places in the Glee Club last Tuesday
evening, and after the keenest com
petition the Judges felt sure of only
four men. These are- Lloyd A.
Barnes, first bass; Dana Cole, first
bass; Merwin Swayne, flrBt tenor; and
William E. Aldrich, tenor.
Besides this number there were
twenty-one other men who were looked
upon favorably and are scheduled as

Foreign Workers Will Present Very
Interesting Subjects to Univer
sity Men.
The City Young Men's Christian As
sociation is planning a meeting for
Sunday afternoon, October 5, that will
be of interest to University men as
well as the young men and citizens of
the community. Mr. Charles J. Ewald,
continental secretary of tho Y. M. C. A.
In South America, and his associate,
Mr. P. A. Conard, will be present and
speak of conditions In those countries
and of the work of the Young Men's
Christian Association. Mr. Ewald Is a
graduate of the University of Michigan
and previous to his work as a conti
nental secretary organized the work
among the students In Buenos Ayres,
where he instituted the first Y. M C.
A. to be organized in a South American
state university. Mr. Conard, a grad
uate; of the University of Illinois, was
for several years general secretary of
the Y. M. C. A. at Monte Video, where
on account of the striking success of
his work the government placed the
expenditure of its appropriation of $50,
000 for physical work under his direc
tion In the association.
The meeting will begin at 3:30 p. m.
in tho Oliver Theater, when the Four
Artists Company will give a musical
program of half an hour. Mr. Ewald
and Mr. Conard will speak at 4 o'clock.
Students will be cordially welcomed.

men win the class scrap with the sopho
mores in their annual battle.
1908
Dr. Bessey declares he would be in
favor of moving the University. No
radical change will be made In the
library for two years. All departments
are crowded.
1911
Four hundred uniformed University
students acted as a military guard and
escort to William II. Taft on his two-
hour visit to this city. Over one hun
dred men were pledged to fraternities,
and other names of mord than seventy
five co-eds were published as having
pledged to sororities today.

Only on Saturday Night Must They
Close at Twelve.
Dancing at the University of Kansas
seems to be regulated only in regard
to time, and to participants. No Uni
versity dance may be given which is
thrown open to the general public.
Dances on Saturday night must close
at 12, all others at 1 o'clock; except
ing formal parties; and junior prom
and sophomore hop at the close of the
year. One of the rules reads: "Dur
ing a regular session of the University
no student or group of students may
give or attend a dance in Lawrence
which is thrown open to the public in
discriminately at a fixed price." Any
rule like this in UiIb school would force
Bullard's out of business. It seems
that as long as the dances are given
at tho proper time no other trouble
is experienced. Wonder what kind of
dances they do down tere? Next?
