Lincoln Candy Kitchen South West Corner 14th O Street Janitor called the attention of one of the members of the convention to the "No Smoking" sign found at various places throughout the building. Apparently the gentleman accosted resented the janitor's action as an in sult, for shortly after a complaint reached the authorities. A notice was Immediately sent to the Temple official In no gentle toneB asking that the friends of the University be no more insulted. Yesterday the "No Smoking" signs were taken down. Obviously, neither party was to blame. The janitor considered himself as acting under the general Instruc tions prohibiting smoking in calling notice to the sign, while the authori ties in reprimanding him felt only the obligation to extend every courtesy to the visiting bankers. Nevertheless, the unwonted sight of a thick cloud of fragrant smoke float ing through the door of the theater into the lobby, where it snuggled play fully in the hair of old Demosthenes. It curled over the transom Into the Y rooms both M. and W and was the cause of some little disturbance In both places. Feeling a trifle out of place in such surroundings It then left via the windows and Instanctlvely float ed over to the campus gate leaving behind It a feeling of unrest where before there had been but the tinkling notes of the Y. M. piano and the tink ling of cups in the Y. W. tea room. $3.50 Shaker knit wool Sweater Coats Ruff neck style collars $2.95 Tan - Maroon - Oxford KLINES 1132 0 Street Head to foot outfitters to men. Iowa City, la., Sept. 26. Another big crowd of rooters assembled yes terday afternoon to watch Coach Haw ley's gridiron warriors chase the fes tive pigskin on Iowa Field. The spirit of enthusiasm manifested by the stu dent body over the team and its pros pects is most gratifying to the coacheB and to the individual candidates for the eleven. In previous years the mat ter of kindling enthusiasm to a burn ing flame was a process that required two or three weeks' time. This state of affairs now no longer exists, and the student body is exhibiting a hearty enthusiasm over the coaches, team, individual members, and the prospects of the 1913 eleven. Yesterday's practice was a trifle more strenuous than that which has marked the wdrk of previous after noons this week. After the customary exercises in passing and kicking the ball and other work of a rudimentary character, two teams were lined up and a short, light scrimmage was add ed to the bill offered for the delectation of the fans. Perhaps "signal drill" would be a better term than "scrlm mige," but nevertheless a few hard knocks were received by both sides. By the close of the practice, things were begininng to wax warm, but the gathering twilight halted the festivities. The candidates, thanks to the excel lent conditioning process administered under the direction of Jack Watson, are in splendid trim physically. This fact has been the subject of much favorable comment by the rooters. Artistic dance prpgrams and menus for particular' people.
