The Campfire Girls, tho feminine
equilvalent of the Boy Scouts, has
been in existence for ony about a
year, but already camps have been
established all over the United
States. A training camp has been
established at Nebraska, and under
the leadership of Miss Nell Miller,
as guardian, about fourteen girls are
taking the degiees in preparation for
the work of guardian.
Tho first degree, that of wood
gatherer, requires simply an earnest
interest in the activities of the camp.
These are limited only by the social
and intellectual environment of the
girls, including home work, school
work nature lore, hand craft, camp
craft as well as various athletic ac
tivities. Honors are awarded in all
these occupations. The girl who can
bake bread in two ways and make
two kinds of cake gets the same
honor as the one who can do four
standard dives or bring up a cup
from the bottom in eight feet of wa
ter. When she has acquired twenty
honors and fulfilled certain other ro.
quiiements, she becomes a Fire
Maker, then the last degree, the
Torch Bearer. Honors are awarded
and grees given at the Council Meet
ings which are held once a month.
Our local Camfire meets every
Wednesday at 5 in the rooms of the
Young Womens'Christian association
and all girls are cordlnlly Invited to
visit their meetings. A hike to Roca,
with a night under the stars, is
planned for Friday, tho ninth of May.
The officers are Miss Nell Miller,
