THE DAILY lEIiKASKAK KIOSK NEARLY COMPLETED THEATRES Weather Machine Puut Into Place Af ter Months of Delay. Workmen have erected the frame of the now government kionk south of University Hall during vacation and with a coat of paint it will be all ready for the Installation of the instruments which aro now here. This is the sec ond kiosk to be erected in Lincoln, the first being placed at Tenth and O strets outside of the federal build ing. The kiosk is one of the scientific achievements of the past decade, be ing an apparatus designed to show plainly the weather conditions In the district surrounding Lincoln. A rec ord of the past weather, a thermom eter and barometer and various para phernalia to register winds, changes, etc., aro included and placed on a chart that explains to the laity the conditions of atmosphere. On one side the kiosk keeps a con tinual record of the highest, lowest, and current temperature and has sev eral thermometers for present obsei vation. It contains a' raln-guage which measures the rain as it falls and registers the amount of the fall on paper. This side also contains a barometer showing the pressure and (lie humidity of the aid. On the other side will be weather charts and daily weather maps together with charts l cloud and weather conditions of interest to those scientifically in clined. The University kiosk is an exact duplicate of the one on the govern-1 incnl square. It rests on a granite! base six feet square and is in itself four by four by six feet. It is entirely open underneath so as to have free action to the air. The glass cover Is merely for the protection of the in struments. The work is being de lated' by the construction company, but ought to be fully erected in a very few days. Almost everybody returned after their week of vacation with the ex ception of those who wer esriously inconvenienced by the Easter tor nado and who will therefore remain at home for a few days longer The pleasure of the past week has been marred for many by Sunday's terri ble happening but it is indeed for tunate that so few students were ser iously inconveniencd by it Only a fw days remain before the midsemester examinations will be here and those who have been spend ing a week of enforced idleness will be forced to come out of their coma tose state and take up the work where they left it.
