THE MACHINE AGAIN.
In last Tuesday's paper we sought
briefly to show that under the exist
ing syBtem of social life for students
there is nothing wrong sith machine
control of class politics Since the out
come of last Tuesday"s election our
position has been variously assailed
Tho opposition comes mainly from
three BOurceB; those who really mis
take potatoes for principles, those
who have a growing but inmate f,i
raillarity with the actual operations nr
class politics; and finally, those ho
collaterally assert that while the con
elusions presented were true, still the
publication of those conclusions on
tho very day of election contributed to
tho defeat of this class of objectors
for tho offices they were seeking, and
that tho publication of these conclu
sions was from their standpoint high
ly inexpedient. Since these three
classes of objectors are fairly repro
Bentative of tho groups into which stu
dent opinion on a political question
naturally divides Itself, It Is only
right, not that wo should qualify our
position which we simply know the
facta sustain but that for those who
aro unwilling to study a brief state
ment of the position, we should make
our exposition more simple, more ele
montary, more intelligible We do so
now.
