MANY LIVE EVENTS PLANNED
Good Indoor Meet, Band Concert, Box
ing Match and Matinee Dance
on Charter Day.
The "Charter Day" meet promises
to he one of the biggest school events
this semester. It Is the only athletic
event of the year open to the students
of both the University proper and
tho "Farm." Dr. Clnpp, Ouy Keed and
Art May, chairman of the Inter class
athletic board, have all been work
ing to make the affair a (success.
The elimination competition for the
meet will bo held at the gymnasium
on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
The contestants will be eliminated
until but six are left with one excep
tion. The 25 yard dash will have
eight men left so as to make possible
two heats and a final. All entries
must be In by G o'clock on Tuesday
the 11th. No one will be allowed to
enter later than this.
There are seven events for individ
ual competition and an inter-class re
lay race. Practice has been going on
briskly of late and several records
will probably be smashed. MedalB
will be given this year as an Induce
ment to the men to get out, gold
medals for a first placo, a silver
medals for second place and a bronze
medal for third place TheBo medals
are given for all events except tho
relay. They will be on exhibition
in "Ij" hall before the meet.
There are many special features
this year. The best of these Is a
boxing bout between "The Terrible
Turk" Frank and "Cyclone Sam"
Waugh. The fight Is said to be for
a $10,000 purse so a great "go" is
assured. This is an extra induce
ment to the sports of the school.
A matinee dance in the chapel will
please the girls and all the frivolous
of the opposite sex. For those who
have wooden legs and are unable to
dance, or to whom tho bloody bout
has no attraction, a band concert is
arranged.

The Household Arts club will meet
Tuesday evening, February 11, at 8
o'clock. The hostesses are Miss Mat
tie Hall and Miss Margaret Long at
Gertrude Hall. Important business;
election of officers.
The ForeBt club will give a dinner
at 6:30 at the Llndell, Thursday
evening, February 19. The guest of
honor will be Hon. J. B. White of
Kansas City, Mo., one of the moat
prominent lumber men in tho United
States.
The Y M. C. A Is planning a big
all university meeting for Thursday
night at 8 o'clock In the Armory. No
admission will be charged and num
erous forms of entertainment are be
ing planned. Hodman and Waugh
will box; Miller and McCormick will
wrestle, and a tug of-war will be held.

At Ohio State, the Pan-Hellenic Coun
cil has condemned as Indecent the
new, so-called fancy dances.
Tho action came as a result of a
campaign started by the Lantern, the
college paper, which denounced them
in their editorial columns as "lan
guishing disgraces" which no "man or
woman who has any regard for his
or her propriety can afford to coun
tenance." At Michigan, at a meeting
of the student body, the objectionable
dances were barred, and any person
not conforming to the rules will be
put off tho floor.
Miss Ensign, Dean of Women, has
now struck at the root of the whole
matter and has privately asked each
and every fraternity and sorority to
prohibit the Boston, Cactus, Tango,
Argentine and similar dances at all
the house parties. She had been
working for some time, indirectly, to
supprees those hybrids at University
affairs and by confidential talks with
those who managed the danceB was
to an extent successful. Fraternity
men are extremely reticent In making
public their action on the request but
It is rumored that the prospect of
"featureless" dances is not entirely
pleasing to more than one Bet of
Greeks.
