The College of Agriculture has for a long time stood first In heaping a profusion ot medals, cups and prizes on the university. Now comes news fiom Columbus, South Carolina of the. latest acouisitlon. Nebraska Is a champion sweepstakes winner on wheat at the Fifth National Corn Ex position held at that place. The exribit of rard winter wreat shown by CI. W. Demlng of Fairmont, Neb. won both the grand champion wheat sweepstakes and national sweepstakes for that particular kind of wheat. Demlng Is a sophomore in the college of agriculture, and has taken four successive firsts on this peck of wheat. Besides the grand prize at Columbia, Mr. Deming has ex hibited this peck of wheat at the Fill more county fair, the Nebraska state fair, and the Nebraska winter corn show, winning first prizes with every entry. This month's University Journal Is full of Information regarding the sum mer session, which will be from June it, to August 1. Courses will be of fered In many branches, advanced courst s for those specializing on high school teaching, and other courses for teachers of the lower grades. Opportunities seldom equalled will be offered to those who register for these courses. There will be studies for those wishing to make up entranco credits, four college credits being equivalent to one entranco credit. Adults, or graduates of the college will find courses open to them, nnd, in tin case of graduates, Master of Arts degree may be obtained. There Is an Important supplement to the paper this month. It is wiitten by Chancellor Avery and states his views regarding university removal. It is addressed to the alumni and is an appeal for their loyal support, whether the school Is removed or not. Plenty of entertainment Is provided for the afternoon of Charter day for the most fastidious lovers of plea ure, especially for those who prefer their fun spiced with a bit of excite ment. The big annual track meet Ib sc bduled lor that afternoon, and will Include a band concert, an exhibition drill by the Pershing rides and pos sibly a matinee dance. The order of events for the track meet is as follows: Twenty-llvc-yard dash, pole vault, running high Jump, fence vault, 12 pound shot put, running high kick, ropo climb. A committee of six men have been working for borne time on the pro gram of this meet and will bo largely responsible for its success. The com mittee consists of A. A.
