Mead Mr. Mead is president of the World Peace foundation, which was en dowed with a million dollars a few years ago by Hdwin Oinn of tJinn & Co. He was delegate to the Interna tional Peace congress in 11)08. As! a publicist, orator and an author, lie Is ono of the most widely known men in the east. He was for a number of years editor of the New England Magazine, which is a publication of distinctly literary type and, has been president of the Twentieth Century club of Uoston, and of the pioneer social service clubs. Mr. Mead is at present devoting all his time to trio cause of international peace, and editing of a popular priced library of works of famous authors on war and peace. The title of his address was "Tho United States as a World Power," and Its explaintory clause "Washington the Expander of England." He iiointed out the fact that Washington and his able assistants had in fact done tho best for England of the two nations in that they had settled the rights and liberties of Englishmen and taught England good colonial policy. He gives Uncle Sam credit for in spiring Japan and China and having the unparalleled honesty to turn back to China what was left of the Hoxer indemnity fund. "Honesty is the best Polle," said Dr. Mead, "for China in turn has invested the money in Amer ican cultivation of Chinese brains." Finally In speaking of the Ualkan situation in the east, in which tho Turkish tyranny is being forced out of Europe, he said that it whb Amer ican ideas that have shaped tho Bul garian self government and through it the Turks turned out.
