Four men competed in the Rhodes scholarship examination hold Tuesday and Wednesday They were represent atives of the three universities in the vicinity of Lincoln, no men coming from the colleges in the state, as had been expected. II or N , '12, and M V Reed, U. of N, 14, were the men who took the examination from the University I, P Newkirk, who fulfilled the quail fications at the time of the last exami nation but was not appointed to the scholarship, took the examinations in Creek Newkirk graduated from Wes leyan last year and Is registered in the University of Nebraska Lav School this year. The success of the candidates will be announced In about two months and the appointment will be made about a month later As many of the contestants as pass in the examination will be eligible to a scholarship, either in this or in any succeeding year, so long as they are under 25 years of age Under the ruling, Newkirk, who passed last year, is now on the "waiting list" and is eligible to appointment instead of the candidates of this year The candidates gave varying reports as to the "stiffness" of the examina tion Latin prose composition came in for a large share of what was said, however.
