Not only does It give the band a state wide, reputation, but it alBO advertifies the University In a favorable manner In addition to these benefits this trip generally places the band on n sound financial basis for the remainder of the year The trip will be made thlB year with the full consent of the University au thorltleB and on the band's responsi bility For, by a decision of Chancel lor Avery, the University band has been made a commercial organisation and may play for remuneration when and where it will, provided it plays at a uniform rate The efforts at making money by the band men have on pre vious occasions placed the oflicialB of the University In rather trying situa tions, but now, by tho order of the head of the school, the band 1b on a strictly business basis. In making this decision, however the Chancellor stated that In playing engagements it could not be partial, that it could not play at one price for one engagement and for another at n Becond. Girls Hold Meeting and Discuss Rela tion Between College Girls and Y. W. C. A. The first vesper service of the Y W C A was held at fi o'clock Tuesday "The Relation Hetween the College Girl and the Y. W C A " was the subject of the hour, and Miss Louise Curtis presided Several association members, namely, Lorena Hlxby, Miss Daniels, 'Helen Dlnsmore, Mary Mol colm and Evangeline Long, explained the relation between the college girl and" The Y. W C. A Each one em phasized the need of spiritual develop ment In connection with a University education. The three points emphasized by the speakers as to the advantages offered University girls by affiliation with the Y. W C. A were first, the opportunity of meeting and becoming acquainted with University girls; second, asso ciation with girls of strong character and high Ideals, and. third, the oppor tunity offered for training for Chris tian service The meeting was quite informal, the program being furnished entirely by the members, and each talk showed an enthusiasm Inspired only by real Interest in the association.
