THE DAILY NEBRASKAN CLASSIFIED COLUMN AT THE THEATRES GIRLS ATHLETIC AMBITIONS ATTRACT MALE POPULATION INGENIOUS METHODS ARE RE SORTED TO IN ORDER TO GAIN ADMI88ION. NebruBku co-k1d received hearty support in their track meet from the masculine element in school In fact, had the Rates been thrown open to men a laro amount of money would probably have been taken in Many wonderful methods were re sorted to by the inventive youths in order to gain the coveted admission to the meet Men, who had never be- i foro shown any interest in athletic, seemed suddenly possessed of an in . ordinate desire to see a "sixty-yard dash." The Nobraskan ollice was besieged I by applications of would be reporters who wished to "cover" the meet. The , size of the band was increased about ' fifty per cent bj the addition of new ' musicians, some of whom did not i know : snare drum from a clarinet ' Enthusiastic cheers and shouts of encouragement came from the crowd- I ed windows of the engineering build j Jng, where, for the first time in his tory, no one cut his lab. work. "Interest in athletics is Certainly not dying out at Nebraska," said one coed. "Any time the athletic hoard needs money, all they have to do is to hold a girls' meet and they'll get a big crowd of men, at least" PRESENTS NEBRASKA'S CLAIMS i DR. To the two hundred and seventy five members of the graduating class of the Omaha high school Chancellor Avery delivered an addresB on Thurs day morning setting forth the advan tages of higher education. He told "what the large universities of the "west were doing as compared to the eastern universities nnd he mentioned in particular some of the advantages derived at Nebraska. "The average man without a college education is like a ten-horse power engine," d"clared the chancellor in tho course of his address. "It is the man who has the college education that can climb the steep hill oL buc cgbs, while the man of ten horse-power learning must climb in the lower altitudes " The chancellor was induced to make the trip to Omaha throughthe efforts of Omaha alumni in the University, and especially by tho Omaha club which is striving to bring more Oma ha students to Nebraska instead of their going to eastern schools.
