ularly significant to our roaderB as

overlooked.

curred to mark yesterday as tho 180th
anniversary of tho birth of tho
"Father of his Country." Tho Uni
versity proceeded much In its usual
manner, no holiday was declared, no
flags adorned the campus, no fitting
exorcises wero hold, In fact nothing
was done to distinguish It from any
other day.
Tho city was oqually remiss In Its
observance of the occasion; It Is true
that many of tho business houses
oloBed at noon or boforo, but on tho
other hand, vory fow flags wero to bo
soon, and, It Is scarcely to bo bo
bolloved, many of those that wero
flung to tho broozo stood at half-mast.
Such n condition la lamontablo, to say
tho least. Tho signs of mourning aro
hardly appropriate on tho birthday of
tho founder of this great nation.
Whether this Is duo to carelessness or
to tho rush of business, which leaves
no time for such trifles, Is Imma
terial; tho fact remains.
It seems hardly fitting that tho
capital and eduoatlonal center of our
state, the convening place for Nebras
ka's most promising young citizens,
should ignore in this manner ono of
our most important holidays.
