Contest, Tuesday.
The Temple High School wus de
feated In a fust game of basketball
Tuesday by tho Lincoln Academy.
Both teams are in tho City League
and tho game was one of tho fastest
and closest that has been pluyed to
date. Coach Huscall's light but fast
team played tho heavier Academy
team so hard that tho University mon
were fortunate to got away with a
victory. Tho score was 16 to fl.
Aggies Play Two Games.
The Agricultural College played a
doublo header basketball game Tues
day night when the farmers slipped a
defeat to tho Fairmont High School
and the Faculty worked a victory out
of the College View five.
Porter, Gaddis, Johnson, Wlllard,
and Neafus held down the position's
on tho Aggio team throughout the
game.
Next week the Aggies go on their
first trip of tho season, visiting David
City, Columbus, Geneva, St. Edward
and Albion. Tho squad which will
make tills swing around the circle has
not been definitely picked.
Swimmers, Start Soon.
Tho intercollegiate swimming sea
son will bo opened January 13th by a
swimming match between NorthwoBt
orn and Chicago.

Prospects for the Drake game uro
not so rosy as at ilrst anticipated.
With threo men temporarily out of
the game on account of studies and
injuries, It looks ns if tho Cornhusker
team may start the season with a do
feat when they meet tho Blue and
White five next Friday night.
The practice during tho fore part
of the week was so strenuous that a
number of men ore taking an enforced
reBt cure on account Of stateness. At
least three men are off the floor from
grippe and colds. The squad can
hardly muster enough men to practice
tho now rules.
Coach Stiehm has doubts as to
whe'ther the team will recover from
the effects of such a strenuous week.
With a hard schedule ahead it is posi
tive that all of the squad must be
used during tho season.
Hawkeye Rifle Team Chosen.
The University of Iowa rllle team
has been chosen and preparations aro
being made for their first match,
which is to be held with Minnesota.
Morton C. Mumma is captain of tho
team and L. H. Keeper heads the
marksmen. Iowa generally has one
of the best rifle teams in the country
and this year's team is not expected
to bo an exception.
No Place for Indians.
Naturally the reader would think
that an Indian club would hold down
a place in the Sporting Column. Well,
there is one at Michigan that does
not. It is here becuuso all tho Indians
wo over met were good sportB.
Gym Floor Dates.
Dr. Clapp has issued tho following
notice : .Men trying out for toams to
enter the intor-frnt or Charter Day
athletic meets: The gymnasium will
be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays from four to live, and on' Sat
urday afternoon boforo three.

Hockey haB been taken up in real
earnest by the suffragettes at the Uni
versity of Chicago. Tho women nre
playing a series of games.

Jack Dalton, captain and Btelfar

kick to rugby football. Dalton was a
phenomenal kicker while ho played in

cafeteria is now busy considering
bids for tho necessary fittings and
furniture. The bids are coming in
fast and are mostly from linns in tho
city. Tho dotnlls of tho plans of the
bids are being worked over ns rapidly
ub possible
The bids received provide for about
ono hundred seats, tho arrangement
of which Ib to be somewhat similar to
that qf other cafeterias of tho city.
It is thought that if all the prelim
inaries can bo finished In a few days
the cafeteria can bo in operation with
in n month or Bix weekB. In tho mean
time tho book store will have been
moved from Its present location and
bo lodged in the Administration build
