Begin Playing January 22 Practice
Hours Made for Each Organization.
The inter-fraternity athletic board
met late Tuesday afternoon and ar
ranged the basketball practice hours
and made the ruling that only those
men who are on the 'varsity basket
ball team this year are to bo barred
from participation In tho games.
The games are to be held with tho
week beginning January 22, and all
gameB are to be played off In the divi
sions as soon as possible. Tho big
deciding tournament will be held on
February 10.
A committee consisting of Brannon.
McKee and Christmas was appointed
to select a board of ofllcials to referee
the games.
Tho schedule of games was held
until the next meeting. Tho follow

Instead of taking to heart tho
"Isms" of military discipline, the sec
ond year cadots taking the theoretical
courso are exasperating their ofllcerB
by their unruly actions.
Last Thursday night there was
something in the air. Cat calls,
coughs and rythmic tramping echoed
through the Engineering Building.
During tho riot six desks were broken,
and the section marchers of tho differ
ent companies aro charged with de
merits until the offenders report them
selves. .All thld Influenced tho commandant
to change tho study room from tho
M. E. building to tho Chemistry lec
ture room. Thofe the companies are
arranged in sections apart from each
other.
But even this change did not smooth
the turbulent spirits of the "JoystorB"
for long. Tuesday night the men sit
ting near the door suddenly caught
cold all of thorn at once. While tho
teacher read tho lesson they amused
themselves and "riled" the Instructor.
However, they were at last dismissed
with the Injunction that they pass out
quietly. , .
A few days spent amoifg the fumes
of II2S is expected to bring the mon
to a fuller realization of the oppor
tunity they are throwing away, and
then those who are r.cally Interested
can study in peace.

CONVOCATION THIS
MORNING.
Dr. H, B. Lowry Will give an art
criticism at Convocation toda,y. This
Is on account of the art exhibit which
is being given in Art Hall, and many
of the finest pictures of the exhibit
will be shown this morning.
Dr. Lowry is a fervent lover of art.
He is a connoisseur of some note ''In
Lincoln and for many years has ex
plained and Interpreted tho pictures
of the exhibit to those who, fond of
art, are not so well Informed upon Its
beauties and significance as himself.
Final rehearsals are being hold
every night this week on "Tho Ama
zons," which Is to bo glveu by th
Dramatic Club Saturday night In the
Templo Theatre.
Mildred Bovins, who has been
coaching the play, reports that her
cast is in the best of shape and aro
going to put on a sketch that will
please.
The setting of tho play Is unusually
attractive and In one act somewhat
novel. Special appliances to meet tho
requirements of a complicated plot
havo been provided and It is expected
that they will afford no small amount
of amusement.
Tickets for the play aro going well,
which' assures a good audionco for
Saturday night. They may be had of
club members or at tho Templo box
office.

these same co-eds did not know him
on tho campus tho day before!

The publication board has issued a
call for applications for positions on
the editorial and business staffs of
tho Dally Nobraskan for tho second
semester. Four mon are to bo select
ed for positions on the editorial force
and three for work in tho business
department. No applications for any
of the various positions havo as yet
been filed with the secretary of tho
student publication board.
An Important change in the meth
ods of election of tho business staff
will bo begun with" this semester.
Heretofore tho assistants hflvebeen
appointed by the business manager,
but this time the board will elect all
members of the financial dopartmont
force. This is nqt a now Idea. On
tho other hand, the board members
havo for somo time been considering
(lie change in policy and have decided
now to make tho change. According
to the notice issued by the board, ap
plications for "editor-in-chief, manag
ing editor, two associates, business
manager, assistant business manager
and circulator" will be received at the
ofllce of tho secretary of the board
until noon, Friday, February 19, 1912.

Is now being held in Library Hall.

Dr. Lowry gave short addresses on

tures exhibited; similar talks will bo

Sororities Making Rules.
At the regular meeting of tho Intor
sororlty Council, Tuesday afternoon,
tho following committee was appoint
ed to draw upj-ules for second semes
tor pledging next year.
Tho active delegates of Kappa
Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta,
Delta Gamma, PI Beta Phi and Alpha
Chi Omega. This committee will sub
mit several plans at tho next, meeting
of tho council on February Cth.
Tho "open house" planned to bo
given by a fraternity for next Sunday
afternoon has been indefinitely post
poned by that fraternity, owing to tho
attitude taken by a number of tho
faculty on the subject. Tho stand
taken by those in authority Is that
tho function as planned will bo too
ilarge a society event to take placer on '
Sunday and as such society events on
that day would bring unfavorable
comment upon tho University.
