COACH STAGG WILL OPPOSE ANY
IMPORTANT CHANGES IN
PRESENT RULES.
In the coming meeting of the na
tional football rules committee, Coach
Stagg of Chicago University will en
deavor to keep the present open stylo
game. The abolition of the forward
pass; the increasing of the number
of downs in ton yards, or tho decreas
ing of the distance to be gained on
three downs are the most Important
things that hao boon suggested. Coach
Stagg declares that tho forward pass
will not bo dropped, but that ho will
have a few minor changes to intro
duce In regard to it. Ho thinks that
tho forward pasB should be used for
another year, at leaBt, and thinks that
next season the eastern coaches will
be of tho Bame oplniori. Purdue Ex
