The installation of a department of
journalism in the University of Kan
sas has inspired the editor of the Daily
Kansan with the idea 'of improving
the college paper at that institution.
A campaign has been launched to
make the "Kansan" a daily paper, as
are most of the publications of sur
rounding schools. Five hundred more
subscribers are wanted, and if se
cured, the Kansas paper will becomo
a daily after January 1.
Board Resigns.
The present board agrees to relin
quish its profits in the publication,
and it further proposes to have its
accounts audited by a faculty commit
tee. The management of the ,paper
is to bo given ontlroly to the Btudents,
who are to obtain their position on a
merit basis.
The prosent cost of the paper is
$3,000 a year, and it is proposed to
increaso the size, print more features,
send out more copies which will
bring the cost up to $6,000.

university athletics, the total receipts
of the Michigan game' were about $10,
100, of which Jthe Wolverine's received
a total of $5,092. The original cot
tract with that team called for 50 per
cent of the total receipts at the gate,
with tho guarantoo of $4,000. The
past season at the university has been
very profitable and although no figures
are yet obtainable, It is thought that
tho net profits will bo well up with
those of tho beBt former year.
