When taking a short cut to the
chemical laboratory, notice the small
oak tree that Is west of tho building.
It is the "Luckey oak," and rather an
interesting history is connected with
it. About eleven years ago Dr. Luckey
was visiting in Now York City, and
would often go out to one of the parks
and feed the squirrels acorns that he
.gathered, for them in the Highlands.
When ho returned to tho university
he brought with him an acorn, one
that was particularly large. This ho
plantqd, and under his watchful eye
the acorn has grown to a tree four
feet high.
