Phillip Lehmer, Phi Kappa Psi, has
returned home because of the death of
hi father. Mr. Lehmer was taken ill
a week ago while traveling In Mexico
and died in. Omaha Wednesday morn
ing from heart trouble.

Arbor Barth, ex-'lO, who has been
abroad for the past year, is expected
to return home June 1. Mr. Barth
left the university at the close of his
Junior year, a"nd entered Harvard.

pal countries of Europe and Asia, and
is at present In Japan.

Students in the French department
are anxiously awaiting the announce
ment of the piny in which Sarah Bern
hardt will appear during her visit to
Lincoln. The teachers have made ar
rangements to read In class the pro
duction which she will present. With
the date of her appearance only ten
dayB away the public nro still await
ing the decision of her manager,.
For those members of the senior
class who have not been over-Indus-trlous
this is a most strenuous week.
I-dist Thursday notices were sent out
from the registrar's office to all those
who were menaced with Incompletes
or conditions, stating that In order for
one to gradunte it was necessary that
these be removed by May 12. It Is
estimated that there Is more work
being dono this week by the seniors
than hos been done during the whole
semester.

Dramatic Story Is Recited by Miss
Howell.
Miss Alice Howell, head of the de
partment of elocution, gave a reading
at convocation yesterday morning en
titled "The New Year's Watch." The
story Is a very dramatic one, and Miss
Howell held her audience under a spell
while she spoke. The story was a
southern one, where a negro was ac
cused of murder and is about to be
burned at the stake, on New Year's
eve. His mother, convinced of his In
nocence, sits watching for the coming
of a 'Prominent white man whom she
thinks will save her son. When the
colonel does not come she gets on a
lidrso. and rides four miles to get him.
The colonel Is a candidate for office
and fears lfho attempts to stop the
mob it will hurt hl$ candidacy. How
ever, he Is persuadedtQ act, and suc
ceeds in stopping the lynching. The
young negro Is afterwards proved In
nocent when the bloodhounds refuse
to touch him while on the scent.
Miss Howell was presented with a
beautiful bunch of American Beauties,
at the close of her reading.
