tho faculty of tho law college for Its
effortB In bringing about the barbecuo
which proved to be such a success last
Wednesday. There is no doubt now
but what the event will become an an
nual affair. There never has been
anything at the university that haB
done more to bring tho instructor and
tho student closer together. When a
professor can got down to a human
basis in a human way he 1b not going
to lose his authority. Tho only differ
ence is that he is a governor more by

Several weeks ago tho Ncbraskan
and' a number of students called on
tho Oliver theater management, to
aHceraln' if it would bo possible to
have Miss Burko play a matinee, as
tho engagement was advertised for
one night only, Saturday, May 13.
The Oliver management was as
sured that if a matinee was secured
the students 'would turn out In large
numbers, and especially those who
arc to attend the military hall at tho
auditorium that evening. It was en
tirely due to the talk which P. C.
Zehrung, mannger of the Oliver, was
able to make to Miss Burke's personal
representative, that the mntlnee was
arranged ns requested by the stu
dents. Miss Burko never 'plays mat
IneeB in one night stands, but Lin
coln will he an exception.

given a great deal of credit in afford
ing tho students the opportunity of
seeing Miss Billie Burke, one of
America's greatest women stars. In I
"Mrs. Dot," a witty, satirical comedy
by.W. Somerset Maugham, the Eng
lish dramatist, who has funished so
ninny successes to the American as
well ns to tho London stage.
Miss Billie Burke's engagement is.
at the Oliver, Saturday matinee and

Seven studentB of the University of
Missouri are down with smallpox. Six
are quarantined in tents on tho
grounds and one is being cared for ati
the house where he was stopping.

Tho Missouri Valley high school
meet next Saturday should bo patron
ized by the university students. Every
man has a vital interest in it from
the standpoint of a member of the
University of Nebraska. Some of tho
best of tho younger athletes will take
part. They represent- large terri
tory. Many of them will go tp college
when they have finished their second
ary school education. It is up to us to
show them that tho University of Ne
braska is a good place for them. Show
them that wo have tho right spirit.
If wo do our part, it may result in
bringing some of these men to Lincoln
when otherwise they might go else
where. It is to our advantage that the
meet is to -be held here and let us
take advantage of it. '

March 17, 1011, at Spokane, Wash.
Mrs. ParltB spent 1907-8 In graduate
study in the German and English de
partments and has since been em
ployed in teaching at Pomeroy, Wash.,
and Elk City, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs.
Parks are located for tho present in
Belize, British Honduras, C. A.

street havo been doing things. The
old dandollon bed in front of tho con
servatory has been removed tq give
way for sod. Tho change is most welcome.
An alumni program will be given at
the Palladinn meeting tonight. Miss
Flora Bullock, professor of English
literature at the farm, and C. M. Sklles
are on the program.
