REGIMENTAL REVIEW.
Government Inspection by Capt. H. N.
Cootes on May 4.
The university cadet regiment will
give a regimental roviow this evening
for tho bonefit of tho Spanish-American
war veterans. This is tho first
formal review of tho year and It is
expected thnt a large representation
of the students will be present. Tho
review will be held on tho rogular
drill grounds. Arrangements have
been made for the cadets to escort tho
veterans to the Lindell hotel after tho
roviow.
Tho annual governmental Inspection
of the cadet regimont will bo held on
the drill grounds Thursdny aftornoon,
May 4. The inspection will be made
by H. N. Cootes, captain of the Thir
teenth cavalry.

Circular Letters to Alumni of the Col
lege of Law.
The law school barbecue publicity
committee is Bonding out circular let
ters to tho alumni of the law school
urging them to come to Lincoln on
.May 10 to attend tho first annual re
union. Many of the nlumnl located in
Nebraska have already signified their
intentions of being presont. Somo
from other states have expressed a de
sire to come and will do so If their
business will allow them to bo absent
at that time.
The combined musical clubB of tho
University of Pennsylvania are plan
ning to erect a building to be devoted
to the study of music. AJmJnnceof
six hundred dollars Is left over from
the season which has juBt boon con
cluded, and It is Intended to add to It
tho profits of the noxt five seasons. It
Is hoped that by that time a sufficient
sum will havo accumulated to erect
the building. A graduate maringer and
two other grnduato's have been elect
ed by. tho clubB to net as trustees or
the building fund.
A novel but useful field of Investiga
tion bus recently been stnrtod by tho
electrical department of the Univer
sity of Michigan. A enroful study of
tho design and performance of elec
tric locomotives Is being undertaken
under the personal direction of Pro
fessor C. L. do MUralt, of the engi
neering department of tho university,
who Is considered an authority on this
branch of electrical engineering both
in this country nnd Europe.
Harvard and Yale have finally
agreed to row their annual rowing ro
gatta at Now London, Conn., on Frl
day, Juno 30. Tho varsity eight-oared
race will bo rowed down stream at 3
p. m. Tho freshmen eights and tho
varsity fours will row up stream In tho
morning. Tho crow managers of both
universities havo been In correspond
ence all winter over tho date, and that
they havo agreed to row on Juno 30
seems to bo tho result of Harvard's
flat refusal to consldor any other dnto.

"Tho Evolution of Literature." Mr.
MacKenzlo is familiar with Keltic llt

Andrew Carnegie sent word to the
Now York office of Fist university
that ho will glvo $10,000 to the fund
of $500,000 that the trustees are try
ing to raise. This Is In addition to
tho library building recently given to
tho university.
Sixteen Bpinll steel compass points
wore removed recently from the stom
ach of a Cornell Instructor. The points
wero placed In a capsule for safe
keeping somo time 'ago, and It was
swallowed by mistake In place of med
icine. Tho first college paper ever- pub
lished in the United States was at
Dartmouth. Tho name of the paper
was "The Gazette," and it was pub
lished for tho first tlmo in August.
