It is tho hopes of those in charge that every Btudent and faculty member of tho university will bo present. It Ib to bo a great meeting and no one can afford to mlBs it. . GRADUATION- , Last night tho graduates of the ag ricultural school received their diplo mas. Thiamin itself 1b nothing out of tho ordinary and, Is not given, much Importance as compared with other commencement exercises. But It should call to tho minds of all a thought which Is laying hold of tho thinking people of tho day. It is sig nificant of, a greater and more whole some prosperity. Tho more trained and Intelligent farmers there aro, the better will bo tho economic conditions oC tHe countryi The-day-Is-al'most gone when the farmer boy, may be conr 'gidercct tho brunt for jokeB and ridl- 5ule, t Seized with ambition and drunk wltlt tho'"half;ynln hbpo of fame and bucccbb, tho men nnd womon of todhy aro not wont to ostlnmto tho value of tho agricultural school. So many do siro to ho great in a profession, though many fall. Qlory is the only viand that can allay tho hunger of their hopqs. Usefulness and happineBB are ontirely forgotten. An. Incomprehen sible self beforo which the whole world must bend Its knee in adoration is the goal of life. Tho only other great thing In the universe is tho call ing thoy pursue. Not all In the professional schools are so inclined to consider themselves and their relations to the human race. But tho number is still too large. These people forget that tho prosper ity and happiness of a nation does not depend entirely on the oratory of the lawyer or the skill of the physician. There must ho a healthy, population to feed mankind. If 'existence is worth anything, tho farmer is more worthy of consideration than nny other class. He represents a type of, labor that is dajly producing things for tho comfort of the race. Great men have been telling us for a long time that tho common laborer and the farmer were tho two most Important components of society. Vhllo many have been won over to this way of thinking, there aro others who hnvo not. There Ib a snobblBh element which is unable to percelvo that tho man In overalls Is worth more than tho cotton InBlde of a "bone-head." A PROTEST. Editor Dally Nebraskan: I note by tho State Journal of April 3 that tho university tennis cpurts aro to bo turned over to the city Y. M. C. A. for the summer. Is this procedure taken- advisedly l Three., courts Beem few enough for tho summer school studentB and the university employes to find available. Such action as rent ing out Its courts Ib taken by no other university during tho summer period The courts were overcrowded last Bummer,' and there "mis considerable feeling then that the Y. M. C. A. should have tho right of way. During tho coming summer, with tho greater Interest In tennis and tho glrlB playing too, things would be worse. I don't know how tho latter may feel at hav ing their one court occupied by an out side organization, but for my own part I hope that tho stop is well considered before tho university authorities (un der whoso control tho courts aro now Bald to bo) decide upon It. I have all Interest In and 'sympathy with tho city Y. M. C. A.; but aftorall It Is a non campuB organlzalon, and thero are enough regular university summer players to fill tho courts as" things are.
