But it Ib worse than more of it to think that Iowa can not tako an unoxpocted defeat in good grace. IT MEAN8 80METHING. Did you go to tho band concert last night? You did? Well, that is nil right then. Tho concert was not only a credit to tho band, but to the uni versity. Whon w.o can; show tho peo ple of tho state, and especially those so important as the Btato officers and the legislators, that the university is doing something, it is to our advan tage Sorao havo the erroneous idea that all young men and women como hero for Ib social distinction. This Is so, perhaps, in a" few rare cases. But tho most como hero for work. They aro preparing themselves for a life of usefulness. The sooner everyono knows this, tho better it will bo. It will cause the people of the state to havo a more kindly feeling for its great institution, and at tho samo time make them more anxious to havo tholr children como hero to finish their education. Such things as the band concert show that attention is concentrated moro on tho intellectual than tho social or frivolous. VE8PER 8ERVICE AT 5 O'CLOCK. It Is something that does not como every day, but only onco a year. Tho classes begin tholr prepara tion, in tho fall. It takes lots of hard work to perfect tho drills and dances. Again Iowa is playing- tho 1)aby part. The overwhelming defeat of tholr wrestlers- at tho hands of tho Corn huskors has evidently made them feol bad. T,ho Dally Iowan on tho day after tho meet devotes considerable space in excusing, tho sudden and un expected reversal. Tho principal rea sons given are that tho Nebraska man agoment failed to glvo them notice. of coming until three days before and consequently the Hawkoyes had broken training; and the greatest grievance of all is that the tbo-hold waa barfed, everything being done which tho visitors askri.
