Tho authorities of tho university havo beon receiving an undue amount of unjust criticism from the press and public in general for allowing profee sors to go to other places for higher wageB. Every tlmo ono of tho faculty members severs his connection with Nebraska there comes the general cry, "Why not pay more and koop tho good men." Perhaps tho salaries paid by Nebraska aro not bo high as those given by Bomo other institu tion's. But that is not tho 6nly reason why men aro withdrawing and going to enBtorn schools. ' Every effort was mado to retain Dean Richards, A salary as good as that offered by Illinois was tendered. But It was rofused because greater opportunities were to be bad in an other state.
