the attention, of the Btudents to that
much-discussed question, "Summer
BnBeball."
Tho matter is one of dollars and
cents, pure and simple, but It means
a great deal to tho average college
man.
The natural ability of an American
boy to play baseball is one which can
often bo turned Into profit. If this
hoy Is able to earn money by playing
baseball In the summer months ho
should bo allowed to do so. .Every
student will agree to that. Then
where doeB the objection arise? It
-lB-ln-tha-ldoa-of-prafeBslonalisin,.
Men who havo stood for puro ath
letlcB and clean athletics realize that
a line must bo drawn somowhoro to
keep matters In check. But the Bum
mer baseball proposition is ono which
miiBt bo dealt with carefully.
If a university student is enabled
to play baseball in tho summer in
order to earn money to go to school,
it loks to the students that he should
be allowed to do so.
But here tho trouble arises. If Bum
mer baseball is allowed, and college
athletes are permitted to do this, then
tho cry will arise, "Let thorn do any
thing in athletic lines to earn monoy
to go to school, and still bo amateurs."
WhaJ will the result be?
THE FIRST GAME.
Cotner comeB Saturday for the first
