auspices of the Nebraska Art associa
tion, is how bdlrig'bold' in tho art gal
lory of, tho university. Oyer 1Q0 pll
paintings , have been, brought to Lin
coln from eastern gallorles and stu
dios for this occasion. Many of tho
palntlngB, la fact most of th'oiri, aro.
for. salo, and about four of tho pic
tures will bo purchased by tho asso
ciation aB an addition to. tho present
small collection. The Nebraska Art
association owns about twonty-fivo
largo oil paintings at present This
collection will bo added to at tho
close of Iho exhibition, using tho pro
ceeds from salo of tickets to mako tho
purchase., Within a few years tho
association hopes to bo able to open
up, an art' gallery In Lincoln that will
no a good start ror tms western
stato.

Hnyden, head ofL tho rftt department
of tho university, has four produc?
tlons, and Mrs. Dean R. Leland of
Lincoln has contributed two small
paintings which aro receiving favor
able comment.
"Tho Red Parasol," by F. R. May
nard of New York, Is "by far the most
prominent exhibit. It Is receiving
more attention, from critics than any
picture in tho gallery. The figuro is
t.hnt. of n hnnutiful woman holding n
red parasol. She is dressed In a long
red gown.
The six pieces by LouIb Akin of
Kansas City aro of particular Inter
est, Blnco tho visit of Akin to tho gal
lory, Ho was In Lincoln a few days
ago and was much pleased with the
exhibit, His paintings 'are all In very
delicate colors. He has a fondneBS
for sunsota and views of the groat
Colorado canon.
Fully two-thirds of tho pictures aro
either landscapes or water scenes.
There is a greater proportion of out
door subjects than at any previous
oxhlblt. Thoro Is a noticeable lack
of what aTtlsts .call "still Hfo"
studies.
Students of the university are to bo
granted a special rate for season tick
ets. They can purchase them at any
tlmo for only GO cents. This 1b done,
tho managers say, "to encourago tho
studonts." Students can get season
tlckotB and go up for a few minutes
at a tlmo, every day for a month, for
about tho price of a regular single admission!
Tho Norwegian Dramatic club at
Minnesota -will present next February
