on tho Athletic Field.
The annual competitive drill
of the various companies of tho
First battalion will be hold to
morrow afternoon on the ath
letic field. All classes will be ex
cused for this big event, from 2
to 6. Men who drill -will be ex
cused from classes from 1 to 6.
This is to bo the .largest compote
tive drill that has ever been held
at tho university. Previous to
lust year the First battalion has
never numbered more than four
companies. With the rapid growth
of the students of the university
in the past two years the cadet
battalion had been increased in
size from four companies to six.
Last year the size of tho bat
talion was increased one company
by tho addition of company "I."
This year company "K" was
added. Tho rivalry between the
various companies is keener this
year than it has ever been before.
This is duo to a great extent to
the ,large number Of companies.
Individual Compet.
Following the competitive drill
of the six companies the indi
vidual competitive drill of the
battalion will be hold. In this
drill the four best drillers of
each company are chosen and
these men will drill for first aud
second drill championship of the
battalion.
Last year the prizes for 'this'
drill were cups. The same prize
was offered the year before. Pre
vious to this time the winners of
tho battalion individual drill
were awarded with gold and sil
ver medals.
The competitive drill betweon
tho companies will be for tho
Omaha cup and colors. This cup
has been drilled for seventeon
times. The drill this year will be
the eighteenth for this cup. Out
of seventeen competitive drills
company D has won tho cup
seven times. Tho closest com
petitor to company D is company
B, who has four victories to their
crodit.
Army officers from Ft. Crook
will in all probability be judges
of this competitive, as this is the
rule which has been followed in
the past.
RUTH PAXSON MEETINGS.
Successful Series to Close Today.
The Ruth Paxson meetings are
proving, interesting aud fruitful.
Sunday afternoon Miss Paxson
spoko at tho Temple theater on
the "Twontieth Century Mace-
donian Call," basing her remarks,
on several' of tho cablegrams dur
ing the convention of student
volunteers at Rochester, N. Y., in
December.' A unique cablegram
