Flying Is a flno art or science which? Anyhow It will bo flylngr-Ne-"braska will organize an aero club and assume a position on an oquallty with tho other colleges of tho United States. Incidentally tho mombors will rlso at sovon, roll tho machine out of Its saragb on tho roof, oil it carefully while munching hot, cages, throw in a jioto-book or two and sail away over tho foggy gray stroots of Lincoln, over tho tops of tho tall buildings, to tho university. No moro stumbling along half-paved Twelfth street, no moro wading through snow that is never cleared from tho streota, no moro slipping on ico that forms tho winter coating of tho Lincoln sidewalks, no moro waiting for a car that won't como bocauso of tho Jntorvontion of an ex ceptionally heavy due. These aro only eomo of tho moro practical advant ages which will bo derived from tho popularizing oflhjs science at No hraska. ' A 8LIDING POLICY, Tho American peoplo has been Called a de-civilized pooplo that Is, one which lives off tho accomplish ments Qf others. There is much truth In the statement, Tho, average Ameri can is only too willing to accept the benefits of past civilizations without trying to do sompthlng through his own efforts. Hd doesn't care how thoroughly things aro dono just bo they not a roturn and a speody one. DoubtlcBS tho great wastofulness of tho American people Is duo to this sliding policy. Tho nvorago business man takes tho easlOBt path, rogardlo&s of tho fact of Its being oconomlcal or not. Ho accepts all inventions and tested mothodB, off hand, and doesn't oxort himself enough to apply thorn in a thrifty way. Tho "Blido through" mothod Is ox tromoly popular In school Hfo. Tho average student takes flno libraries, good Instructors and useful laborato ries as matters of course Ho forgots that all theso requisites for education havo cost much toil and effort. Ho trios, systematically, to got as many of tho high points of education with out going down to tho fundamental truths. Ho has reduced loafing to a system. In short, ho roads tho oaBy headlines of Hfo without any fair knowlcdgo of tho real contents of tho paper. It Ib tlmo for tho American pooplo to wako up and develop its own form of civilization. It is tlmo that tho educatod man, through tho universi ties, wako up tho American people. Count of laps was Jugglod In tho two mllo raco at tho Illinois-Chicago moot Spturday night to tho oxtont that both teams claim first place. AERO CLUB CERTAIN Students Will Begin to "Fly" Tuesday. At this tlmo tho organ ization of tho club and Its alms and purposes In tho unlvorslty will bo dis cussed. All university mon interested, in "flying" of any sort aro requested to bo present. The Forum J Daily Nebraskan: I notice that tho senior debating team has boon "picked" by .tho commlttco and also that tho senior class is lacking In its interest in intor-class debates. Must tho class "swallow" all that? Thoso debates wore Instituted a year ago to dovelop class spirit, to oxtond class affairs outsldo of athlotlcs and togivo all colleges a chanco to par ticipate. Tho movement Is a good ono and it seems hardly reasonable that tho senior class should bo tho first to lose lntorest. Perhaps tho class is to blarao, but I venture to remark that tho uso of a little printer's Ink would havo gone a long way toward arous ing "Interest." Instead, tho only pub lic notice wo aro given Is that the team has boon "picked." Without wishing to catu any reflec tion on tho team, 1 would like to call attention to tho .fact that oxecutlvo committee work is becoming entirely too great a" factor In unlvorslty affairs, and would suggest as a remedy that classes requlro moro frequent reports from their committees and incident ally that class meetings bo held oftener. l M.
