ment last year, ithoro seemed to bo
some question as to tho wisdom of
this plan, and in splto of tho articlo
to tho contrary wrltton in tho No
braskan by' a prejudiced person, tho
moots woro generally considered a
groat, success, Tho principal objec-
tlon offered to this arrangement as
first proposed was that it would
ralso a fooling of antagonism and hos
tility between- tho fraternity and non
fratornlty men, but It Is well known
byall who followed thtrinoels closely
that no spirit of this kind was raised;
In fact, It seemed to havo tho oppo
slto effect. Tho only fair criticism
that can bo mado regarding tho Char
tor Day fraternlty-non-fraternlty con
tost of last year Ib that thoro was
practically a lack of competition In a
fow oyonts, duo to tho unfortunate
withdrawal at tho last moment of a
numbor of contestants. It was com
monly roportod at that tlmo that theso
withdrawals woro mado with tho do-
llborato Intention of detracting from
tho interest in tho moot, but I am not
prepared to say whothor or not this
report was correct. I can stato very
positively from closo observation In
all throo of last year's contests and
also f rom Incrulry after tho meet from
qulto a numbor of roprosentativo fra
ternity and non-fratornlty men, that
tho moot WAS considered a great suc
cess in practically ovory way.
