leader In football and things intellec
tual, has an Afllnity club, in good
working order. The club is composed
of half a dozen young women who
room at one of the popular boarding
houses near the campus. Of course
the afllnity idea itself is old and can't
begin to comparo with Uncle Joe Can
non as a space-getter in the news
papers. But tho young women of the
Afllnity club have added several brand
now wrinkles to the idea.
Each member of the club, as a re
quisite of membership, has selected an
Afllnity and told his name to tho other
girls. Tho rules of the organization
require that she shall have had only
the most distant speaking acquaint
ance with tho Fortunate One or tho
Victim, depending on tho point of
view. The choice is final; the rules
prohibit the changing of affinities.
Having made her choice, tho young
woman strives to obtain some marked
recognition from her Affinity. Tho
penalty for failure is a "tubbing."
The open season for tho Affinities
closes at Christmas. If before that
time a member of tho club haB not
succeeded in having her Affinity pay
her some special attention, she must
tako a "tubbing" in the presence of
tho other members who have "made
good." And the water won't be warm,
either.
"Marked attention," as defined by
1 the club, means an Invitation to a
dance or the theater or a request to
call. A stroll on the campus won't do.
One young woman has already
achieved such success with her Aflln
ity that she Is certain to escape tho
penalty. Another, not so fortunate,
appealed to tho Bister of the young
man she had chosen. Tho sister told
tho Afllnity what a fine girl So-and-so
was, and urged him to call on her.
Tho brother so far has remained ob
durate. It is against tho rules of tho
game for a member to toll about tho
club to any of the marked men. She
must win or lose on her merits.
